State of Mind

Early on
I rode a locomotive
barreling down the track
in a hurry to reach
the destination,
wherever that was.
Then I switched
to a horse and buggy.
You could see the scenery
and smell the grass.
Now I ride in a canoe
on a lazy river,
dangling fingers
in the water
and wait
and watch
everything
that passes,
wanting to have it
all with me
when I arrive.
